Celebrated every year on 19 August, World Humanitarian Day is directed towards honoring humanitarian efforts worldwide and propagating the idea of supporting people in crisis. On this day, SOP Initiative joins the United Nations to advocate on behalf of the entire humanitarian community.
World Humanitarian Day 2019 is set to celebrate unsung heroes, who have long been working on the front lines in their own communities – Women Humanitarians. We see it as a time to salute the efforts of women in Amuwo-Odofin, who rally to people in need and tell stories of their undying contribution to making the world a better place. These women deserve to be celebrated. They are needed today as much as ever to strengthen the global humanitarian response at large.
This August 19, courtesy visits, social media profiiling and award presentations will be used to showcase those we have chosen to call our #WonderWomen in Amuwo-Odofin. Public opinion was samples, awardees were nominated and profiled by members of the public via online questionnaires, and the ConnectChairty group chose 13 community women to honour this year, five of which will be publicly celebrated come 24th of December at our annual charity carol concert tagged AmuwoCarol.
We at the SOP initiative and ConnectCharity seek your support this World Humanitarian Day in honoring those women in your communities who have tirelessly improved countless lives, showcasing incredible strength along the way.
Happy World Humanitarian Day!
