2020, what a year! What a year it has been.
I recently saw the film “Death to 2020,” which discusses everything that happened this year. I digress; in the film, Samuel Jackson begins by saying, “2020, a year so momentous it was named twice.” I had to take a breather to laugh.
So, to get down to business, AmuwoCarol 2020 was incredible; I apologize if you missed it. The carol’s theme was “Not Locked Down – Gal. 3:23.” It was a virtual event that took place on Christmas Eve (the 24th night). The AmuwoCarol is an annual event that is usually held outdoors in Mile 2, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, but due to the COVID-19 guidelines, we had to go virtual this year.
This carol service commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ while also thanking God for his inexhaustible mercies on our lives since the beginning of the year. The event was hosted by MC Special and began with worship songs by the Amuwo-Odofin choir, BoluBee, EwaSax, and Prudence. Mr. Seun Ayeni, president of the SOP Initiative, delivered the welcome speech. Pastor Fatonyibo led the Bible reading, Bidemi Olaoba and GForce provided ministrations, and Lafup and the Angels entertained us.
We believe and have faith that everything will be fine. We know that his joy in us will strengthen our faith, so we strive to maintain this joy at all times and never allow the devil to steal it from us. The devil will always want to steal, kill, and destroy (our joy), according to John 10:10. But Jesus has given us abundant life (joy). Halleluyah!
Pastor Wale Oladapo delivered the sermon, Pastor Fatonyibo led the prayers, and Funmilola Amugo, the Vice President of the SOP Initiative, gave the vote of thanks.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We were joyful and happy, and we continue to be so despite the pandemic because of Jesus (the source of our joy) in us (is also) our hope of glory – Col. 1:27.
